“The Holy Mass”
Mass Coordinators: Mass Coordinators assist the priest in ensuring that the Liturgy of the Mass runs smoothly. The Mass Coordinator ensures that the liturgical ministry positions are filled. This includes finding last minute substitutes for absent ministers (Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers and Ushers) as needed.
To become a Mass Coordinator, one must be active in his/her faith and have good interpersonal skills. The person should be decisive, patient, reliable and have a good understanding of Liturgical procedures.
Sacristans: Have the care of the sacred vessels and other items used at Mass. They set up these items before Mass. They clean up these items and put them away after Mass.
Altar Servers: Altar Servers are an integral part of the Mass. Good, attentive altar servers enrich the celebration and provide important assistance to their pastor. This ministry is open to young people who have received first “Holy Communion.” Special training seminars are provided for those who would like to join this ministry.
Lectors: The lector ministry is active at Saturday evening and Sunday Mass. Those involved in this ministry proclaim the First and Second readings and reading the Prayers of the Faithful. Arriving 20 minutes before Mass on assigned days is mandatory. A clear, well-paced voice is an asset. Training will be provided.
Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion EMHC: assists the pastor in the distribution of Holy Communion to the community.
Registration/Reception Desk: This ministry welcomes people with a friendly and courteous manner helping register new parishioners and answer any questions. Volunteers are required to be at the registration desk in the church foyer 20 minutes before Mass and usually for 10 minutes after Mass, or, until all inquiries have been dealt with. General knowledge of the parish and the ministries are an asset but training will be provided.
Greeters: Welcome parishioners as they enter the church for weekend masses. They answer basic questions or direct parishioners to the appropriate sources for information. The commitment is 20 minutes before Mass starts. Greeters must present a modest appearance, be friendly and be able and willing to assist other hospitality ministries, such as at the registration desk as needed.
Ushers: Ushers assist parishioners before and after Mass, help seat people prior to Mass and are in charge of the collection. Volunteers may also be required to pass out the Sunday bulletin and assist at the registration desk if needed. Volunteers are required to be in the church 20 minutes before Mass and usually 10 minutes after Mass. Ushers are responsible for the security of the church. Trusted parishioners are needed for this ministry. Training will be provided.
Collection Financial Security: Responsible counting, recordkeeping, and securing of funds must be maintained after each church collection. Trusted and trained parishioners are needed for this ministry.
Coffee/ Social after Mass: Promotes friendship among parishioners by serving refreshments after certain weekend Masses in the church Gathering Center.
Cloister of St. Peter: Cloister of St. Peter looks after general church housekeeping such as maintaining the flower arrangements, watering plants, cleaning the candle holders, replacing the candles and keeping the pews tidy. They plan the Liturgical Art and prepare the church linens. No experience is necessary as training is provided.
Church cleaners: Volunteers are required to clean the church on a weekly basis and this presently occurs on Saturday mornings. Four “top to bottom” seasonal cleanings of the church are also required. Teams of volunteers are required for this very important ministry.
